Project Status

The developers are continuing working on the next version of Bit 5 Blog. We currently do not have a firm estimate on a release date but it will probably happen in a couple of weeks. Check this page for any updates.

The next version of Bit 5 is expected to have at least the following updates:

A better list with all the changes made since the current version will be available when we release the next version.

2/19/04

Bit 5 Blog 8.0 was released today. This version contains major updates from the 7.x series of releases. Please see the release notes for important information about this release.

Previous versions of Bit 5 Blog are no longer available for download. Due to various security concerns with the 7.x code base, we will no longer offer these versions for download. We hope that users upgrade to version 8.0 to take advantage of enhanced security upgrades.

Development continues on Bit 5 Blog. At this time, there is no time estimate for the next release.

Update: An older version of the addcomment.php was accidently put into the release. We have released 8.01 that has a new version of this file. If you have already downloaded 8.0, you can just replace this file to fix comments. We aplogize for this oversight.

1/23/04

Release Canidate One (RC1) for Bit 5 Blog Version 8.0 was released today. This is the last planned release before B5B 8.0. Unless a mjor problem is found, there will not be a second release canidate. If no major problems are found, we expect to release B5B Version 8.0 in 2 - 3 days.

1/21/04

Version 8.0 beta was released today. There is currently no estimated date when Bit 5 Blog 8.0 will be released. The release date will depend on the number and type of bugs reported, user feedback, and other variables. Please check this page for future updates.

1/12/04

Version 7.02 was released today. This is a bug fix only release. The developers are currently working on a major release which does more than just fix bugs. There is currently no time estimate as to when this release will be ready. Future details will be posted here.

There have been a lot of emails asking when the next version will be released. We are still hoping to have something released prior to 12/25.

The DB space was allocated and the demo blog is now up.

Serveral items have been completed today:

I know that people are waiting for a more complete version release. I apologize that this has taken so long. It has taken me longer than expected to get every thing set up. Also, had been a difficult task to take over someone else's code and learn it. Although the code is very well written, it does take awhile to learn all the intricacies. In addition, I am busy finishing school projects and looking for full time employment prior to graduation. However, I am very much hoping to have a release with some newer features prior to Christmas day (12/25/03). Thank you for your patience.

I have had the flu, which has prevented me from doing much the past few days. I need to respond to several emails and still put the code into CVS and some other miscellaneous items. Please be patient with me if you are waiting on an email or some other item. I hope to get to it soon.

I am still working on setting up all the parts of the account here at sourceforge. I hope to have the CVS system and other items set up soon. I would also like to get the MySQL database space set up and have a running version of Bit 5 Blog for testing and as a demo.
